Safeguarding Coursesfor Mossques and Madrassahs

Faith Associates has developed a unique toolkit which will assist Management Committees is setting up a comprehensive ‘Madrassah Management System’ in their Mosques. This toolkit will provide teaching methodologies in key areas that the Mosque leadership needs to understand fully to steer their Mosque in a manner and direction which will help to implement good teaching practices. One of the key features of this toolkit will be that Faith Associates will develop and implement a child protection training programme to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and to ensure that Management Committees have an increased understanding of their role and responsibility in safeguarding children in Mosques and Madrassahs.

The aim of the training programme is to introduce child protection/safeguarding issues in Mosques and Madrassahs context. The objective is to develop awareness of, and the ability to act on, concerns about the safety and welfare of children and young people in order to reach as wide an audience as possible within the Muslim communities.

Two examples of the training programme that Faith Associates will offer are:

(1) Half-day course to include:

• Working principles – the 5 outcomes embodied in the children act 2004

• What is child abuse? Explore opinions, attitudes and values

• Definitions of types of abuse and the impact of abuse and neglect

• Identifying indicators of possible abuse

• Systems and processes for safeguarding children

• Dealing with disclosure and identifying how to respond appropriately

(2) One-day course to include:

• Working principles – the 5 outcomes embodied in the children act 2004

• What is child abuse? Explore opinions, attitudes, values and definitions

• Child development and the impact of abuse and neglect

• Identifying indicators of possible abuse

• Systems and processes for safeguarding children

• Communicating with children – Dealing with disclosure and identifying how to respond appropriately

• Responding to child abuse: Roles and responsibilities

• Case study

• Consent and confidentiality

Members of Faith Associates team work closely with the NSPCC faith unit and sits on national advisory body regarding Mosques and Madrassah
