The National Inter-Madrassah Cricket tournament culminated in the Finals at Lords sponsored by The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB)

Bringing Cricket to the heart of England’s urban areas. National tournament with over 50 organisations participating.

Hundreds of Muslim children students from Madrassah have participated in the Eman cup 2024 national tournament, which is the first of its kind supported by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The National tournament was launched at the iconic Bradford at the Park avenue Dome complex. A £1.5million pound facility managed by the Yorkshire cricket board (YCB). The launch event was inaugurated by the 50 Over and T20 Would cup champion Adil Rashid.

Faith Associates in partnership with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) delivered 5 regional heats to select regional Madrassah cricket champions. Tournaments were held in Bradford, Manchester, Birmingham, West and East London and the winners from each of these tournaments, playing the finals at the prestigious Lords venue at the “Home of Cricket” on the 12th May 2024.

5 teams competed under “pairs” cricket rules at the prestigious venue with Burhan Centre Madrassah from Manchester winning a tense final against the Essex representatives.Sabah Hamed the Diverse Communities Volunteer Manager from the ECB said “The EMAN CUP 2024 has been an opportunity to engage with communities at the grassroots and build that love for the game. Bringing the regional madrassah champions to Lords has been a highlight for all of us”

Mosque and Madrassah cricket clubs from around 5 regions came to compete in the EMAN CUP 2024, The 1 st Inter-madrassah tournament to be held in the UK support by the ECB.

After a fierce round robin format. Burhan Centre Madrassah from Manchester was crowned champions in yesterday final. Many of the children in the winning team attend the Madrassah to learn the Quran by heart (Hifz) and play cricket on the weekends as well as attend mainstream.

Speaking to Salman Akhlaq the Under 11’s Captain for Burhan Centre Madrassah said “Im so proud of my team and thankful to my Madrassah teacher and my dad for inspiring us, I hope I can play for England one and lift the World cup at Lords too”

Sabah Hamed ECB’s Diverse Communities, Volunteering Manager said; “The tournament is providing children (boys and girls aged 8-11) with an opportunity to play the beautiful game of cricket at iconic Cricket institutions such as Park Avenue Dome, in Bradford, Emirates Old Trafford Manchester and Lords Cricket Ground in London. These opportunities will inspire a new generation of children, with the final at Lords being a celebration day of excellence across five regions”.

The Eman Cup is bringing together 50 cricket teams from Mosques/Madrassahs across the five regions, developing a key pathway and entry point for a new generation of players into the sport. A key part of the Eman cup is to develop and grow the sport in urban cities with increased access and support, and developing new institutions into affiliated cricket clubs that can provide access to cricket within the communities they serve.
