Organisation history

Faith Associates has a long and storied history. We have been experts and pioneers in the development of faith institutions for many years and have had an impact in many areas of governance and sustainability. We are proud of our achievements and all the people who have led us here.

  • 2004

    Faith Associates founded

    Faith Associates was set up in 2004 as a non-theological consultancy to meet the needs of faith based communities. We aimed to work in a culturally sensitive, multidisciplinary way to provide research, training, advice and guidance to support the challenges faced by such communities.

  • 2006

    National Consultation & Launch of MINAB

    Following a nationwide consultation in the United Kingdom, Faith Associates helped to established a national umbrella body for Mosque & Imams in the UK. Constituting almost 600+ organisation in a self governance model. The body established was called MINAB

  • 2007

    Publication of the 1st Mosque Management Guide

    A pioneering guide to help support in the management of Mosques and Islamic Centres, accompanied with a 16 hour training programme to support development and change in these centres.

  • 2008

    Established experts in the field

    Faith Associates had developed bespoke training courses for Mosque and madrassah management as well as having a dedicated certified safeguarding trainers that would help improve standards across the UK. Faith Associates, working with safeguarding boards established a unique and accredited Mosque and Madrassah Safeguarding course.

  • 2009

    Publication of the 1st Madrassah management Guide within a safeguarding context.

  • 2010

    Launch of Mosque Open day guide

    Pioneered the development and the concept of how to open mosques to wider the society and to encourage the development of an open and transparent culture

  • 2011

    ImamsOnline.com launched

    Faith Associates created a dedicated portal for the promotion of Islamic leadership. Imams Online was also set up to provide advice, support and training to religious leaders globally.

  • 2012

    Iftar 2012 - Working closely London Olympics 2012 team to facilitate Olympic teams to visit Ramadan iftar parties in their honour

    Some of London's and wider UK's iconic mosques opened their doors to host Olympic teams from around the world during the London Olympics festival 2012, which coincided with Islamic month of Ramadan

    Mosque Iftar

    National campaign to open mosques during Ramadan, to share the Iftar feast with the wider community

  • 2014

    Tech giant partnerships - Social awareness for faith leader

    Delivering a national roadshow with twitter to high light the power of social media and the potential benefits to faith leaders

  • 2015

    Women in Mosque Management guide - Developing and supporting service delivery

    Following extensive research and consultations about how women can play a leading role in supporting the development of services from Mosques and Islamic centres. A guide was developed and launched to encourage greater involvement of women in service delivery from Mosques

  • 2016

    Safeguarding youth and adult toolkit for faith institutions

    Following extensive consultation with all faith communities and a toolkit was launched in the UK Midlands with the support of 6 local authorities to support safeguarding processes in faith institutions. The guide has now been reproduces in various parts of the UK and aspects of the toolkit have been shared in Asia and Africa during Faith Associates training in those territories

  • 2017

    Consolidating our global reach

    By the end of 2017 we had provided safeguarding training to over 1000 people across Mosques globally. We also started our project with the United Nations offering faith institutional development training across East Africa. Additionally, in official partnership with Facebook, we launched the ‘Keeping Muslims Safe Online’ guide for Muslim communities globally – the first of its kind, now on the facebook safety page.

  • 2018

    Beacon Mosque Standards launched - Global bench mark for Mosques

    Following 15 years of working closely with Mosques globally, Faith Associates launched a global bench mark of quality for Mosques and Islamic centres. The standards established through extensive engagement help mosques measure themselves against matrices of quality inorder to grade themselves.

  • 2018

    British Beacon Mosque Awards (BBMA) launched

    UK's best mosques identified and celebrated at the inaugural BBMA in London

  • 2019

    2nd British Beacon Mosque Awards take place

    For the 2nd year, 400 British Mosques attend the Gala Dinner in London celebrating and awarded the best Mosques of 2019.

    International Partnerships & Consolidating Global Reach

    Working with European, Middle Eastern and North American partners and bodies expanding the work of Faith Associates across different continents

  • 2020

    COVID-19: Providing Guidance and Support to Mosques, Madrassah and Imams

    Faith Associates have been at the forefront of the covid-19 pandemic providing constant support and guidance for Islamic Institutions across the UK.
