HM Revenue & Customs has launched a new online service allowing charities to register themselves for tax purposes.
Charities will no longer be able to register using the paper form, ChA1, although forms submitted but not yet processed will be considered.
Charities can now register only online, by providing various details about themselves and supporting documentation.
Charities will no longer be able to register using the paper form, called ChA1, although any forms that have been submitted but still to be processed will be considered by HMRC.
HMRC ran a trial of the online registration service last summer. In October, it launched a survey to help decide what name to give this service. The name it eventually went for was “Get recognition from HMRC for your charity”.
Mark Dearnley, chief digital and information office at HMRC, said: “We are completely changing the way we work with our customers – including charities. Our new digital services are straightforward, easy to use and convenient. The charities service minimises the risk of making mistakes, so applications are less likely to be returned to the organisation.”
